In truth, collaboration could be improved in most industries and organizations. Challenges such as communication gaps, lack of trust, conflicting goals, or inefficient processes are unfortunately commonplace.  Within heavily regulated industries however, the requirement for close alignment and collaboration between multi-disciplinary teams brings further complexity.  Often organizational structures, functional cultures and drivers and even individual personality types are sub-optimally managed and aligned causing degrees of conflict and consequential delays.

Furthermore, accepting that many projects in such industries are long term, the risk to further extended project timescales is raised. Long term projects provide numerous challenges, such as how to keep teams aligned towards targets when regulations and understanding is evolving in parallel, particularly when inevitable turnover in team membership occurs.

These factors and others can contribute to extended timescales being common in highly regulated industries.  As seen however with the vaccine programs launched during the global COVID-19 pandemic, it is possible to significantly reduce time to market in even the most regulated industries in ways that could lead to substantial project cost savings and commercial and public benefits.

The above graphic highlights the eight process elements that COALITION’s approach to Collaboration Management is based upon. The below table expands on the core elements of the process that underpins COALITION's approach.

COALITION's process is customizable for each organisation and their requirements. A Discovery session is held at the beginning of every project to define exactly how COALITION’s process should be applied, if further steps are required and what level of customization of the individual steps is necessary to optimize COALITION’s support.  The findings and defined customer centric approach will be provided as a manual to the customer to aid project navigation.

The Discovery session will start the process of defining the Team under consideration.  An important aspect of many projects within highly regulated industries is that they can run for years or even decades which in itself provides issues that require careful management. COALITION’s approach considers squads as well as teams to develop a plan that will ensure higher levels of resilience over the course of a project.

Once the manual is issued, COALITION’s team will take the customer through the process steps as briefly detailed above. The rate at which these progress will be defined during the Discovery phase but is likely to be 1-3 months with team coaching and alignment support provider by COALITION's Fractional Assistant Coaches running over a period of 12 months or more as required.  For further information on this process and how it can help enhance collaboration and progress for your organization please use the Contact form or email enquiries@coalition.ltd.
